Playing ‘Funny’ Cards With Friends!

Hello everyone, it’s Keren with a fun collaboration with the lovely Michele Ferguson. Her blog is here if you’ve never checked her out before.

She is funny, lovely and a real talent. She does amusing cards, really original and does CAS amazingly. Well she has had a ‘thing’ going for a while where she collabs with people. It’s called ‘Playing Cards With Friends’. So she kindly let me play, and it happened to fall near a National day ( in the US) about humour; ‘Let’s Laugh Day’!

The rules were…agree on using the same product; we picked Altenew’s Caps Bold Alpha Dies. You can get them in the U.K. here and in the US (& beyond) here. Also we agreed on the humour theme.

Now to the humour ( or should that be humor 😉😋) . I did scratch my head a little to try and do something funny with quite a decent sized alphabet. I knew I’d stamp on the letters, but as to the funny bit…

Well, if you have to explain the joke ( which I had to, several times, to my kids) then it’s probably not as funny as you imagined. In the U.K. we have a phrase ‘I love you, and then some‘ which does sound remarkably like ‘I love you and Dim Sum’ which, let’s be honest, we all love Dim Sum!

The set is one from Clearly Besotted called ‘Peckish Plushies’ and is super cute. I felt the sentiment needed a little extra, so after spending rather a long time sawing through a chopstick with my craft knife..I both blunted the knife, nearly chopped off my finger several times and didn’t put much of an indent into the chopstick.

So, I wrapped some patterned paper around the chopsticks.. which was more complex than it should have been. Eventually I got two chopstickesque shapes. I stamped the patterned from the bowl in the set repeatedly onto some red cardstock, coloured in the gaps with gold gel pen and wrapped around the end of the chopstick.

The letters were diecut from some PaperArtsy Smoothy heavyweight cardstock and coloured using alcohol markers. I added extra white dots for detail.

I then added the funny to me sentiment and called it done.

Now I can’t wait to see what Michele has done- she’s bound to knock your socks off!! Do visit her and show her some love!

I’ve loved doing this and reckon I need to think up a collaboration of my own! ( I’m always late to the party! 😂).

Hope you have a wonderful day,

Keren xx

Keren!! I LOVE IT and DIM SUM!! Definitely MY kind of humor, so thanks for starting my day with a smile, and a laugh!
Your chopsticks look so authentic – I have used a fork on one of my own cards in the past!
LOve the grey – but you just knew I would, right? and your fab little morsels of delight are so perfectly colored on those BIG alphas – so glad we chose them.
My card is winging its way to you – if it hasn’t already arrived! Thank you so much for agreeing to Play Cards, my friend! If you do your own thing, I’d love to join in, if you’ll have me! xx

So glad you were able to “play cards” with Michele. Two of my favorites coming together to bring us all a little joy. And what joy this clever, fun card it is. You picked a great choice to showcase these awesome letters. Dim Sum looks so great on the card…perfect coloring, spacing and chopsticks, to boot. Awesome card.

Darling card and I got it from the letters before I read the chopsticks sentiment! The chops look so authentic too.

I got it immediately and think your chopstick card is quite inspired – so glad I popped over from Michele’s blog to take a look!
