Altenew February 2020 Stamp/Die/Stencil/ Watercolors Release

Hello!! I’m delighted to be joining in with the Watercolor part of the February Release. You may have arrived from the lovely Kymona Tracey

I won’t be showcasing the new products other than the gorgeous new 24 half pan watercolour set. ( I’m sorry, I’m English- I have to spell it watercolour from now on in this post!! 😉 ). Keep reading for some projects and news on wonderful prizes.

I decided to do some loose and simple watercoloring- perfect for beginners. It’s really easy to avoid getting watercolours for fear it’s going to be too hard. It really doesn’t have to be. Just think…this is only paint.

To begin, I wanted to do a scrapbook page. It’s yonks since I did any scrapbooking and I’ve really missed it. I’ve used the Simple Beauty Stamp set and after stamping with a waterproof ink I just happily let the paint flow in a scribbly way. I didn’t want it to be precise- just soft and gentle. Start off with a lighter shade of the colour you want and then just add more colour in specific areas. As the watercolour paper is now wet, the paint will blend better together.

You can the details- I’ve added two tiny flowers to the journaling part plus stamped the smaller flowers in grey so I can write over them and it doesn’t detract from the words. I’ve added lots of lovely black and white dots, splatters, hearts, washi tape and twine.

I fussy cut around the flower after I’d painted it, so I could slot the photographs in. It just helps the page look a little more streamlined.

I then wanted to use the watercolour paints to make some wash backgrounds to add some stamped details too. This is even easier…anyone can lay some colour down and then add a bit more on top; the perfect beginners project.

You might recognise another set from last month’s release…Incredible. This technique could be done with any of your stamp sets. Just start off by stamping onto watercolour cardstock with embossable ink. Sprinkle white embossing powder on and then heat to set. Next- cut out the centres from the images ( you could do this with diecuts too and not do the heat embossing) and set aside. Using a sheet the same size as your stamped one, slide under the stamps and draw a feint line so you know where to add the colour.

Now just scribble colour around the pencilled areas and leave to dry. Add the top layer using foam pads and mount onto a coloured cardstock base card. Next, flick some of the colour over the top layer and leave to dry.

The sentiment was easily done. Die cut the word from watercolour cardstock and then paint over each letter with a different shade, allowing them to blend slightly into each other. A soft and easy project to recreate.

For my final project, I thought I’d freestyle completely and just let the paint do its thing.

I wet some watercolour cardstock and started painted a flower. You’re looking for a flower effect rather than a lifelike copy. I just had such fun. These paints are such lovely quality and really pigmented so even with the lightest washes there is a good quality of colour without it being streaky. They are such a wonderful collection of colours and you’ll have a blast using them!

Once I’d let my flower dry, I added some water around the edge of it, let it soak in and then tore the edges. Watercolour cardstock gives a lovely effect when you tear it.

I added the flower onto a base with the Ornate Cover Die , then just did more painty scribbling. You can do that, right?!! Then have fun adding lots of dots with a white gel pen and a fine black marker pen.

Then I just added some leaves done in the same way as the flower plus a sentiment. Fairly quick and easy and people will think you know what you’re doing ( I’m certainly a beginner watercolourer so you can achieve this too!)

You can see the February whole release with the gorgeous Watercolor Paints here .

I do think you’ll love experimenting with them. They are well worth investing in and who knows…maybe you’ll even become an artist😉!

I like the coloring of the flower and the added page journal stamping. I don’t quite understand the process of the second entry, so I need a bit more details because it looks great. Also like the loose feel of the last card.
