Clearly Besotted August Teasers Day 1

Hello! How are you doing?

We’re off on a fun filled few days of Clearly Besotted Teasers all in anticipation of the August Release!

I can hardly believe it’s nearly August- I do not not know where the year has gone and as we’re currently enjoying some wonderfully hot weather (aka as shockingly sticky, energy sapping, sleep depriving, sunburn inducing, icelolly consuming heat! ) I thought I’d go the other way….

I’m not a fan of heat. Neither was Harold. For obvious reasons. I’m using Scene It Seasons- which you will LOVE! and the cutest set called All Four Seasons along with Seasonal Sentiments.

Anyhow. Back to Harold.

He loved the cold. Heat tended to diminish Harold, and I’m not talking about his self esteem! Harold spent many of days feeling utterly alone and silent. In fact, it’s fair to say the chill outside was matched entirely with the sadness of his heart.

But that wasn’t going to be forever. Just like we don’t know what good things might be around the corner, Harold was oblivious that his little world was about to be rocked by a very little, and slightly unhinged miniature penguin.

Rocky burst into the cold field very early one morning with a set of somersaults finishing off the run with a double pike backflip. The stiff snowman didn’t even respond, ‘Philistine’ he thought.

In truth, Harold had never even seen a penguin, nevermind an acrobatic one. Rocky introduced himself; ‘wey yuh ah sey’. Harold looked piercingly through his coal-like black eyes at the little bouncing blob of energy.

‘I beg your pardon?’ Harold asked apologetically.

‘Why man, what have you done?’ Rocky collapsed into laughter, whilst Harold looked forelorn.

Rocky tried again. ‘Wah Gwaan’.

Still nothing.

At this point, Rocky explained in terms that Harold mostly understood that he was with a travelling zoo all the way from Jaaamayyyycaaaaa (which Harold wondered whether that was a local tourist attraction) and he’d become separated from his friends.

Harold, quickly understood, despite his brain being frozen, that Rocky was NOT from around here and in fact was terribly friendly. Aside from the fact he kept saying fairly weird phrases, he was a tonne of fun and more company that he’d had in eons.

Harold asked him if he’d like to stay a while. Rocky replied that he’d love to ‘Kick up rumpus’ which sounded intriguing to Harold and the newly formed buddies hung out.

Rocky was off ferreting in the bushes and came back with some gnarled rope and a piece of MDF. Folks round Harold were so bad with fly tipping, but Rocky didn’t seem to care.

Harold watched in wonder as Rocky fashioned something from these remnants, shimmied up the tree and tied it to a sturdy branch. He looked on, mesmerised as little Rocky threw himself on the makeshift swing and started singing as he swung through the air.

Inside, Harold’s heart grew a little warmer. Rocky wasn’t swinging how you were supposed to. He was upside down! The sheer abandonment of all that is proper was thrilling to Harold. He always just stood, and stood and never did anything he didn’t think snowmen should do.

Rocky asked him to try the swing. Harold was nervous. With plenty of encouragement, he shuffled over and eased himself onto the swing. With a few pushes, Harold felt joy, like nothing he’d ever experienced. His world suddenly enlarged and he had a friend to boot.

Alas, all good things never last quite as long as you wish they would. Rocky had to go back to his friends and eventually went back to Jamaica with a Harold shaped imprint on his heart.

Harold still stands in that wintry field, and actually stands less, as he can SWING more! He too had a mark indelibly left upon him, in the shape of Rocky and whilst sometimes the loneliness gets to him, he’s forever thankful to his chance encounter with his friend.

Some days, early in the morning, if you creep up upon Harold without him noticing, you’ll hear shouts of ‘wheeee’, ‘wahoooo’ and ‘yikes’ as Harold swings to his hearts content. He doesn’t ever do it upside down; that feels too strange, but whilst he swings, he remembers and his heart glows once more! x

You can see from the scene that I’ve combined a few sets and actually slightly lengthened the Scene It Seasons to fit the card, which is super easy to do with a black fineliner. I’ve added some snow lines with the fineliner and popped some glittery snow on top.

The swing was an easy addition with a piece of card and a little twine and creates a really fun scene. It’s definitely a Christmas in July type of card and will be added to my small but perfectly formed Christmas card collection ( make that a total of 3 😂).

I do hope you’ll pop over to the Clearly Besotted blog to see a bunch of wonderful ness then hightail over to Michelle and Lisa for some more teasers!

See you tomorrow xx

What a sweet story although I feel a little sad Rocky went on his merry way after they formed a little friendship. At least he left his swing for Harold to enjoy and boy, did he! Gorgeous card Kerem and nice to get going on Christmas cards! Xx

Harold and Rocky should be on bookshelves soon, I hope. What an adorable story to match this adorable card. I bet your kids loved stories from Mum at bedtime.
