Remembrance Day & Virginia’s View Challenge

poppies1 Hi!

Today is a day for reflection, thanks & remembrance.

I will chat less today. The card was created for Virginia’s View Challenge where I’m guesting today. With it being Remembrance Day, this Brushed Poppies set from Clearly Besotted seemed the perfect start. Because this set is a solid stamp, you can’t really stamp on the Scarlet Red metal and show the metal through (like you would with an outline image). You can sometimes stamp the image on the reverse and cut out & use the shape, but you have several parts to the set & can’t stamp on the reverse of paper  or the colour won’t show. I wondered how I could use the metal so tried stamping and embossing in clear embossing powder. It worked and gave a lovely sheen and texture too. Definitely a technique I’ll be using on my metal sheets again. I’ll give more details about the challenge with the other project tomorrow.

I leave you with the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead: Short days ago,
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved: and now we lie
In Flanders fields!

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

Composed at the battlefront on May 3, 1915
during the second battle of Ypres, Belgium

Hoping to have some time to play along at Virginia’s view– your card is gorgeous. Congrats on guesting over there. You are doing some great work with the metallics!! Did you happen to catch those poppies in London at the Tower? So cool. Hope all is well– thanks for the lovely inspiration!

I wish I could have gone to see the Poppies. Sadly time hasn’t allowed so far. It’s a big deal getting kids taken care of etc etc. How are you doing?
