Here we are again!
This time…border stamps.
I collected my vast (not) collection of border stamps and the one that jumped out at me was this set by WPlus9

20140608-162611-59171645.jpg
I love the movement in the borders and I got thinking about using an idea I’ve had in my head since this contest began. I wanted to coil acetate. So first I stamped it one side with the stars in gold ink and the opposite with white

20140608-162728-59248974.jpg
In order to make it coil, I thought I’d anchor the twist to the back of the panel and cut two slits in the card

20140608-163032-59432821.jpg then all I needed to do was twist the acetate and slot it into the slits, securing at the back.

20140608-163513-59713611.jpg
I spied some Tim Holtz arrows that my good friend Carole had sent me and it seemed perfect to fit inside the coil.. and voila..the concept for the card was clearer.

Now the sentiment positioning was sorted, I wanted to use the border stamps to create more movement at the bottom of the arrow and thought I could also use another small border stamp to act as a shadow to the stitching ‘flames’ I wanted to do. First I did the stamping (actually, first I tried it out on scrap paper as because my concept was organic, I was doing everything in the wrong order!!

20140608-164634-60394529.jpg I also gold embossed the sentiment BEFORE I stitched as I knew I could redo the stamping if I needed but redoing the stitching would have taken forever!!

At this point I got a little stuck. It looked a bit dull and I couldn’t find a colour to add as a matt behind.
I came back to it the next day and spied some Coredinations glitter card and thought a double colour would be fun

20140608-165030-60630175.jpg I also added some teeny gold and red flat sequins to echo the ‘flames’ and give more movement.
So nearly done, the white space at the top right was bugging me…looked just too empty. I left it another night and came back to an idea of spraying a red and gold mist onto some card, stamping the border out and cutting out the individual stars. Yup, these stars are crazily small. Took quite a while.
I’d finished it. I never take this long to make a card. Ever.

Hope you like it.
That’s using border stamps 4 ways.
1.Onto an acetate strip
2.As a vehicle to show movement ( the dotted swooshes)
3.As a shadow to my stitching
4.Cut out as individual embellishments.
Hope it’s enough for a little vote?! You can vote right here
Thankyou to all of you xx
Back a little later with a PaperArtsy post xx

I LOVE this card!! Such great use of those WPlus9 border stamps…it is so perfectly whimsical & fun!! I will admit…I’m not the hugest fan of public voting contests…but I still LOVE seeing all the entrants. So, each week of Gallery Idol I look at all the cards without scrolling to see who made it so my vote will be cast completely blind….and yours was my pick this week!! You did a fantastic job with the challenge!!

The coil is pretty awesome, indeed, but I really like the different colored stars on the underside of the acetate. Such a fun card!!
