Transformations and a Colour Challenge

A day of dirt, cleaning and shifting has been had by all. It helped that it’s been a really gorgeous day. One visit to B & Q to get the hanging basket liners and shears and pruners. I finally can stop borrowing everyone elses! The plants there were pitiful and expensive. We have a grocer at the bottom of our road who does a fine sideline of Christmas trees ( at Christmas, obviously) and at spring/ summer he manages to get hold of some really interesting and reasonably priced plants. The bonus is that they’re all really well cared for and of a decent size, so you need 100 tiny specimen plants to fill up one medium sized hanging basket.

It is really rather useful having 5 kids sometimes! I put the littlie to bed and the rest of us got cracking. It did cost me 4 pairs of gardening gloves but it was a small price to pay when I had 4 helpers who were all reasonably compliant! The promise of a Fab ice-lolly (love those!) at half time was enough to secure me some trainee gardeners/ weed shifters. There was a bit of argy-bargy at times when one wanted to use the same equipment or do the same job as another, but in general it worked fine and amounted to a serious amount of man/kiddy hours!

Here is a before piccy…

Shocking– I know.. there is a kind of excuse in that I haven’t been in the garden all winter. Oh, actually we did go out during the snow- but believe it or not the kids went out via a kitchen window! Our back door has been sealed shut for a very long time. Impossible to budge open unless you have the braun of Jon-Paul Sigmasson (yes, I’ve had to sit through many years of the Worlds Strongest Man!). It was swollen shut. Utterly and completely. This weekend however, Steve shaved a large slice off the bottom. It now opens and this was the view that awaited us.

But, fear not, 6 green refuse bags, 4 and a half hours. £19.40 worth of plants and a crazy amount spent at B & Q on Fiskars shears and the ‘after‘ piccy is coming up.

I have felt very inspired looking at the colour combo’s in the garden. So, I’m setting a challenge which will run for two weeks. You get a pic of one of the flowers that are now blooming nicely in my garden and I’ll post the best 10 and then randomly assign a prize to one of them.Keep scrolling down to the bottom to see the picture..

Next post will show the prize..will be a Stampin’Up! related one..

Here’s the afters..

Needs a few more flowers perhaps! As for the challenge…

I’m making this a colour challenge. It doesn’t have to use flowers although it’s fine if you want to. I’ll be using Stampin’Up! colours but feel free to use whatever you have to hand. Obviously if you need some new colours that match the picture brilliantly then you know where to come to order some! Closing date for this challenge is Monday 26th April at 11pm. Email a pic  ( )or send me a link.

Right, off to rescue my hands from the ravages of gardening! Gotta love nature though!!

Oh- nearly forgot about the crafting! The first picture was a quickie project we did at Friday’s class. This one was showcasing triple embossing and you can see a close-up of the embossed flower. We used the two vintage sets in the Mini Catalogue- Very vintage wheel and Vintage Vogue. The boxes were packed with chocolate  as I refuse to do a class without it!!

See you soon! xx

All supplies from Stampin’Up!

Stamps Vintage Vogue and Very Vintage wheel,

Ink -Old Olive, Ribbon- Old Olive satin. Embossing powder (silver) and Versamark.
